TOWNSVILLE business leaders have been called upon to help put even bigger grins on the faces of hundreds of worthy North Queensland children.

Camp Quality North Queensland is forming a Townsville steering committee that aims to bring together some of the city’s best business minds to brainstorm new event, fundraising and operational ideas.

The not-for-profit organisation didn’t have to look too far for its first steering committee members, with long-time sponsors and real estate agents Lyn Griffiths and Rohan Banning throwing their hat into the ring last week.

Camp Quality provides recreational and support programs, financial aid and education to children who suffer from cancer and their families.

Camp Quality North Queensland area manager Mark McGregor said the purpose of the steering committee was to open the organisation up to new networks and fundraising opportunities.

“We work day in, day out with Camp Quality and feel that we do pretty well with the resources at our disposal,” Mr McGregor said.

“However, the addition of more business-minded people through this committee will offer new ideas, contacts and a broader outlook which can only have positive results for our programs.

“Not only will we learn from those willing to help us, but we will reciprocate by educating others about not-for-profit and children’s cancer programs.

“Lyn and Rohan are perfect additions for this committee as they genuinely care about our cause and have been contributing for quite some time.”

Ms Griffiths and Mr Banning, who work as agents with ReMax Excellence, said they would use their marketing and sales backgrounds to assist Camp Quality.

“For the past few years we’ve been contributing proceeds from every property that we sell to Camp Quality, but we saw this as an opportunity to give even more,” Ms Griffiths said.

“We know that in this financial climate it can be tough to donate money, but there would be many other people out there who could contribute invaluable ideas or perhaps open the organisation up to new networks.”

Mr Banning said it gave enormous satisfaction to know that all funds contributed to Camp Quality were used to help local children and their families.

“Like many business owners or full-time workers we sometimes find it difficult to find free time outside of work,” Mr Banning said.

“But the steering committee will only meet about once every six or eight weeks and we know from our previous relationship with Camp Quality that the donation of our time or money is going to help worthy children here in Townsville.

“When you see the amount of work that Camp Quality does for families in this community it becomes clear that they could always use more help.”
